Buyer Payments: the evolution from a deprecation project into a strategic payments playbook
What started as a successful payment instrument deprecation strategy revealed even deeper gaps in how payments were designed and communicated end-to-end.I audited every payment touchpoint and crafted a framework to visualize the full ecosystem across organizations. The framework was later adopted by Marketing for all future launches, and was cited by C-Suite leadership as a model for cross-functional alignment.
This work led to the creation of Buyer Payments Playbook and Strategy, a foundational system defining six core payment experience types. It became the source of truth for designers, improved design delivery velocity, and standardized how payments are designed across teams.
Audit & Strategy
The Catalyst: Payment Deprecation
The Initial audit and strategy for the deprecation project revealed inconsistent buyer touchpoints and lack of end-to-end visibility across the payments journey holistically.
“Kelly was instrumental in the success of this project.”
Capture & audit of all payments-related touchpoints and comms, buyer and seller-side
I built the E2E Capture Framework to visualize dependencies and communication patterns. This framework was ddopted by Marketing as a planning tool for all future launches.
“The E2E View was a game changer.”
The Playbook
I led a team of cross-domain designers in the formation of an aligned perspective, and the creation of a Buyer Payments Strategic Playbook.
It detailed a strategic approach for six core payment experience types and codified shared patterns; It was recognized by VP leadership as a foundational scaling tool and allowed new designers to increase velocity of design delivery.
